DELGADO RATTO RICHARD CHRISTOPHER

Epidemiólogo molecular, actualmente docente investigador en la Facultad de Medicina y co-líder del Malaria Research team en la Universidad de Amberes en Bélgica. Es también Profesor Invitado de la Universidad Libre de Bruselas e Investigador Principal Externo de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Christopher tiene una amplia experiencia en estudios de epidemiología molecular y genética de poblaciones de los parásitos de la malaria circulantes en Perú (Loreto y Amazonas) y en el continente africano (DR Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, Burkina Faso) y asiático (Vietnam). Entre sus líneas de investigación, Christopher investiga la dinámica de transmisión de los parásitos y cómo la movilidad humana afecta la persistencia de la malaria en áreas en camino a la eliminación. Además, investiga la aparición y dispersión de mutaciones genéticas relacionadas a falla terapéuticas, factores asociados a experimentar infecciones, búsqueda de marcadores serológicos para detectar la transmisión de la malaria, entre otros. Recientemente, está involucrado en estudios de ciencia ciudadana, serología y de vigilancia genómica de COVID-19. Además, Christopher viene activamente liderando proyectos de investigación y desarrollo de capacidades en epidemiología en colaboración con universidades peruanas (UPCH, UNAP, UNSA, UNTRM), entidades públicas (INS, MINSA) y otras instituciones (US NAMRU-6). En colaboración con los colaboradores peruanos, Christopher ha organizado múltiples cursos y entrenamientos en Perú. Entre estos, cursos/entrenamientos organizados en Lima, Iquitos y Arequipa, relacionados a la epidemiología, bioestadística y métodos de investigación cualitativa (EBQ), genética de poblaciones de enfermedades infecciosas (EPONGE), además de entrenamientos en tecnologías de secuenciamiento de nueva generación para la vigilancia molecular en malaria, SARS-CoV-2 y en TB.
