COSIO CARAVASI ERIC GABRIEL Profesor principal en la Sección Química del Departamento de Ciencias de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Obtuvo su Ph.D. en Botánica en Miami University, EE.UU. trabajando en la biosíntesis tejido-specífica de flavonides. Su M.Sc. en Bioquímica en la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Bachiller en Biología en la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Postdoctorado en Botánica en la Universidad de British Columbia, Canada. Becario Fulbright-Hays para estudios de doctorado en Miami University y becario de la Fundación Alexander von Humboldt para investigación en la Sección de Bioquímica Vegetal de la Universidad de Freiburg, Alemania. Sus investigaciones son en temas de bioquímica vegetal, metabolismo secundario y ecología química.

Proyectos de investigación	MODULACIÓN METABÓLICA DEL PROCESO POSTCOSECHA DE LA MACA PARA EL ENRIQUECIMIENTO DE AMIDAS BIOACTIVAS	Las macamidas son compuestos bioactivos de la maca que se generan durante su secado postcosecha. Se ha propuesto que las amidas resultan de la hidrólisis de glucosinolatos a isotiocianatos y su metabolismo resultante a bencilamina y reacción con ácidos grasos libres. Este proyecto busca completar los vacíos en la información metabólica y hallar condiciones óptimas para la acumulación de amidas durante la postcosecha con miras a obtener un producto homogéneo con alto contenido de macamidas. Proyectos de investigación	Protection and regeneration of the high Andean puna grassland and the tree line forest of the Manu Biosphere Reserve (PunaManu)	The Manu Biosphere Reserve is one of the biodiversity-richest and intact ecosystems at global level. In cooperation with local population and park administration, the project supports the withdrawal of cattle and fire prevention measures, thus contributing to the recovery of the natural ecosystem. Flora and fauna as well as carbon storage capacities are monitored to document the process of restoring natural ecosystem functions. Proyectos de investigación	The Andes : co-constructing an e-DNA observatory of biodiversity changes in response to climate change	The impacts of climate change on biodiversity are already visible in the Andes, at least aboveground, and particularly in forest ecosystems. However, a large part of the biodiversity is represented by soil microorganisms, Our project aims at bringing together experts in soil, soil biology, eDNA sequencing and climate, to initiate a large-scale observatory of biodiversity and functional changes in the Andes, and integrate the different responses thanks to the use of common methods. Proyectos de investigación	Monitoreo de balances hídricos usando redes de sensores inalámbricos para estimaciones de productividad en bosque amazónico y cultivos leñosos perennes costeros	El proyecto desarrolla e implementa tecnología de sensores y redes inalámbricas “internet of things” para determinar la demanda hídrica real. Se valida el sistema usando metodología biofísica de covarianza de flujos turbulentos (eddy covariance) que mide la huella hídrica efectiva. Proyectos de investigación	Andean Dust from Sources to Sinks	Atmospheric dust plays an important role in the global climate system and is now recognized as such by climate modelers. While the Northern Hemisphere dust sources and sinks have been well documented, less attention has been given to the Southern Hemisphere (SH). Previous studies have demonstrated that South America is a major SH dust source to both continents and oceans. However, the pathways from dust sources to sinks and their fluctuation over time are poorly understood.
