GARCIA FUNEGRA PATRICIA JANNET

La Dra. García es una de las más destacadas docentes-investigadoras de la UPCH. En 1980 ingresó a la Facultad de Medicina. Obtuvo en 1981 el Premio CeciliaGiribaldi a la mejor investigación.Se graduó en primer puesto en 1988, recibiendo el premio CONTENTA. Hizo sus estudios de postgrado en EEUU en Medicina Interna, siendo elegida Jefe de Residentes. Realizó la especialidad de Enfermedades Infecciosas en la Universidad de Washington, Seattle.En 1997 fue incorporada como miembro del “Center for AIDS and STDs” e ingresó a la Maestría en Epidemiología de la misma Universidad. En 1997 recibió el premio Marco A. Aguayo de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) al mejor estudio científico de impacto programático. En 1999 se incorpora como investigadora y profesora asociada en la Facultad de Salud Pública y Administración(FASPA).Asume el liderazgo de la Unidad de Epidemiología, ETS/VIH/SIDA conformando un grupo de investigación y obtiene fondos de Wellcome Trust y otros. Asume el Vicedecanato Académico y de Investigación de la FASPA entre 1999 y 2004. Ha sido miembro del Comité Consultivo de Expertos de Salud Reproductiva y Presidenta del Comité de Expertos Internacionales para vacunas contra el Virus del Papiloma Humano de la OMS en Ginebra, Suiza. Asume la Jefatura del Instituto Nacional de Salud (2006-2009), la primera mujer Jefa de esta Institución en sus 80 años de historia.De vuelta en la vida académica como Profesora Principal se encuentra trabajando en investigación en Infecciones de Transmisión Sexual, Salud Global, Informática Medica, Virus del Papiloma Humano y es profesora adjunta de Salud Global de la Universidad de Washington y de Epidemiologia de la Universidad de Tulane, ambas en los EEUU.Es miembro de comisiones internacionales, como de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias de los EEUU-Instituto de Medicina.Tiene un centenar de publicaciones en las áreas de investigación en que trabaja. Actualmente es Decana de la FASPA de la UPCH.
